Gilt-armorial full calf with a contrasting leather title-label on the spine, all edges and endpapers marbled; leather rubbed and scuffed, with a few light surface scrapes; corners a little bumped, with trifling wear to one of them; early leaves and the folding plates at the rear moderately foxed; an excellent copy.
An early Sydney University prize binding, with the handwritten presentation inscription (in Latin, dated 1861) awarding the book to Henry Colyer for progress in the mathematical disciplines. The University was founded in 1850. The recipient was likely Henry Cox Colyer who graduated in 1863 and was soon working as a solicitor in Sydney.
