Early full calf a little worn with slight loss to the ends of the spine; front free endpaper removed; tears to a few folding plates expertly sealed; trifling signs of age and use; a very good copy.
A foundational work of horsemanship, and surely one of the most beautiful illustrated equestrian books. De La Guérinière was Equerry to Louis XIV, and this influential treatise encompasses all aspects of equestrianism, from dressage to cavalry manoeuvres to veterinary science. Provenance: Colonel Geoffrey Callander of Craigforth, with his armorial bookplate on the front pastedown, and his name-stamp on the frontispiece.
