With the ownership signature of Sir Walter Crocker (17 March 1992), his frequent pencilled annotations and emphases, and his detailed notes on the rear endpaper. A number of relevant items are loosely inserted: the original prospectus; a note from Dr John Playford requesting a review; and Crocker's lengthy drafts (nearly six foolscap pages) of both the review and a letter to the author. Sir Hugh William Bell Cairns (1896-1952), soldier, Rhodes Scholar, neurosurgeon (an early student of Harvey Cushing's), was born in Port Pirie; if you miss out on this biography, make sure you consult the 'Australian Dictionary of Biography'.
