Contemporary half blue calf and marbled papered boards; spine gilt in compartments with red leather title-labels; marbled edges and endpapers; covers a little scuffed with minor surface loss on the sides; unobtrusive blind-stamps to a few early leaves of each volume; mild signs of handling; an excellent set.
The complete first series in an attractive Victorian binding. A further five volumes in two series were published, covering the reign of Queen Victoria. Each volume contains the armorial bookplate of the South Australian pastoralist and book collector Henry Hampden Dutton (1879-1932); a half-sheet of his gilt-embossed letterhead ('Anlaby. P.O. Kapunda') is loosely inserted, with a pencilled bibliographical note.
