Norman Lindsay. Eighteen Important Watercolour Paintings reproduced in their Original Colours, with Notes on the Artist's Life by Godfrey Blunden
Sydney, The Springwood Press, [circa 1945]/ 1939.
Quarto, [5]-58 pages with 18 tipped-in colour plates and a reduced-format monochrome version of Plate 3 ('Court of Venus') tipped in on the title page.
Green cloth blocked in gilt and blind; covers very slightly worn, marked and bubbled; small area of surface loss to the front free endpaper (see below); a few slight signs of age and handling; a very good copy with the plates in fine condition.
The front free endpaper is inscribed and signed 'With compliments ... Norman Lindsay'. The recipient's name has been erased between the two lines of the inscription, with some surface loss to the paper. Production began on a limited edition of 1850 copies in 1939 (with the title 'Norman Lindsay Water Colour Book. Eighteen Reproductions in Colour from Original Watercolours') but was interrupted by the Second World War. This example is from the post-war issue, which has a variant title and does not include most of the preliminaries or Lindsay's essay 'The Medium of Watercolour' present in the first issue. A note from the publisher printed on the front free endpaper states 'This edition completes the number for the limited edition interrupted by war...', but the limitation is not stated.
