Three Australian Natives. By Test the Best. They Have No Equal .... [an advertising novelty for Bear Brand Boot Polish]

Fitzroy, Australian Wonder Boot Polish Coy. [circa 1900s].

A piece of cardboard folded in half (external dimensions 150 × 120 mm), with advertising printed on both exposed sides; an indented slot is cut along the folded edge, the opposite edge is sealed; a colour-pictorial circular disc is positioned on a split pin within the space created by the sealed card, and the clever advertisement on the disc is visible through a circular opening (50 mm in diameter) in one side as the disc is rotated.

Slight wear along the folded edge; overall, in excellent condition.

'Three Australian Natives ... Do you wonder what they are? Turn this Disc' and cycle through the three options: 'A Bare Young Native' (a toddler having a bath in a basin), 'A Young Native Bear' (a koala in a gum tree), and 'A Native Bear Brand Polish' (the words 'BOOT POLISH' leap out at you in case you need help). Colourful illustrations of native Australian blossoms fill in the spaces between the three images. This example carries additional advertising specific to 'Town and Country Stores Ltd. Adelaide and Suburbs' on the front panel.

Offered together with a child's metal spoon with its handle in the shape of a koala grasping a branch (maximum dimensions 117 × 35 mm); it was present with the item when we purchased it recently, and we presume it was part of the original advertising campaign. [2 items].
