Hague's History of the Law in South Australia, 1837-1867
Adelaide, University of Adelaide Barr Smith Press, 2005.
Quarto, xii, 943 pages with hundreds of illustrations plus a colour-pictorial 'half-title' (reproducing the cover artwork of the trade edition - see below).
Half law calf and dark green cloth, with contrasting leather title-labels on the spine; top edge lightly marked; a near-fine copy.
The manuscript for this work was completed in 1936, and it remained unpublished for nearly 70 years. This first edition also includes a biography of the author by Helen Whitington and a foreword by the Honourable Justice Perry; the superb selection of illustrations was compiled and captioned by Bruce Greenhalgh. The standard edition is in two pictorial card-covered volumes; leather-bound editions were effectively produced on demand, and in our experience, they are rare on the open market.
