The early history of the Hermannsburg Mission 'on the Finke River, 120 kms to the west of Alice Springs.... The Hermannsburg Chronicle falls into two main parts. First there is the narrative section: a brief chronology of events in the history of the station, which takes us from 1877 to 1933. The entries are recorded by at least ten different writers (ordained and lay), according to who was senior in charge at the time of writing.... The second part of the Chronicle comprises a register of personal records, such as baptisms, confirmations, marriages, Communion attendances, deaths and the like. These are not for general public scrutiny or use; they are essentially Church records' (introduction).
