Section V of the Iconography of Religions series of the Institute of Religious Iconography, State University, Groningen. The contents of the four fascicles are: Introduction and The South-Eastern Region; The North-Eastern Region and North Australia; North Australia; Central Australia and Conclusion. This issue in parts preceded the collected edition in cloth boards.

A note to 'Readers in Australia' is printed on the verso of the contents page of all four volumes: it states in part that 'Where Australian Aborigines are concerned, and in areas where traditional Aboriginal religion is still significant, this book should be used only after consultation with male religious leaders'. The 220 plates on this specialised topic make this a valuable pictorial resource, on top of everything else.
