The Songlines. A Special Edition produced in association with Moleskine®
London, Vintage Books, 2016 ('limited edition')/ 1987.
Octavo, [vi], 294, [24] ('An excerpt from the official biography "Bruce Chatwin" by Nicholas Shakespeare'); [26] (blank) pages.
Blind-stamped papered boards with an attached elastic strap; one leaf a little cockled from the bookplate; essentially a fine copy.
In Chapter 30 of 'The Songlines' Chatwin laments that the French maker of his preferred 'carnets moleskines' (oilcloth-bound notebooks with elastic strap) had ceased production. The modern Moleskine® brand was created partly inspired by these passages. The terminal blanks are for travel notes, and this edition appears to have been originally issued with a blank notebooks and wraparound (not present here). Provenance: British-Australian archaeologist and anthropologist J.V.S. Megaw, (1934-), with his pictorial bookplate mounted on an early page.
