Octavo, six volumes, with approximately 450 pages plus plates per volume.

Cloth; minimal signs of use; a near-fine set with the dustwrappers (three in near-fine condition, albeit one of them price-clipped; one with slight surface loss near the foot of the spine; the other two sunned on the spine).

The first and sixth volumes are signed on the title page in ink by the author (as 'Manning Clark'); the first volume is also inscribed. The other four volumes each have an adhesive label signed by the author loosely inserted (still with the removable backing attached). Half a dozen newspaper or magazine clippings, mainly obituaries, are loosely inserted. [6 volumes].
