A collection of five volumes in the Oak Tree Press First Chapter Series, all signed by the respective author
Fyfield, Oak Tree Fine Press, 2007 and 2008.
Quarto, 44; 42; 56; 52; and 44 pages with illustrations (some in colour).
Cloth with paper title-labels; a couple of tiny bumps; overall, in near-fine condition (one with a slipcase).
All are signed by the respective author, and all are number I of ten (Volumes V, VI and VII) or fifteen (Volumes III and IV) hors-commerce copies from the limited edition. The series reprinted the first chapter of a Booker Prize-winning novel. The volumes present here are: Volume III. Stanley Middleton: 'Holiday' (with artwork by the author; 350 copies in total). Volume IV. Nadine Gordimer. 'The Conservationist' (with artwork by Cyril Coetzee; 350 copies in total). Volume V. Barry Unsworth: 'Sacred Hunger' (with artwork by Ezequiel Mabote; 160 copies in total). Volume VI. Margaret Atwood: 'The Blind Assassin' (with artwork by Yoko Ono; 160 copies in total). Volume VII. Alan Hollinghurst: 'The Line of Beauty' (with artwork by Gilbert & George; 160 copies in total). The hors-commerce copies such as these, apparently reserved primarily for the authors published in the series, were issued without the original prints and slipcases that were included with the editions, and were intended to be issued unsigned. Profits from the sale of these editions went towards children living with HIV/AIDS, primarily in sub-Saharan Africa. [5 items].
