Brown sand-grain cloth lettered in gilt on the spine, sides panelled in blind; covers a little bumped and very slightly worn at the extremities; spine a little sunned; binding canted and a little shaken; a few later leaves marked and opened a little roughly at the top edge; a few other minor signs of age and handling; a very good copy.
A foundational work of Australian anthropology, concentrating on the Gunai / Kurnai people of Gippsland and the Gamilaraay of New South Wales and southern Queensland. Provenance: Fred C. Smith, with his large pictorial bookplate on the front free endpaper (the design by Douglas Norman features Aboriginal artefacts and weapons).
