A comprehensive examination of smoking culture in New Guinea, illustrating the wide regional variation in the design and decoration of pipes across the island. Alfred Cort Haddon (1855-1940) is best known for leading the 1898 Cambridge Anthropological Expedition to the Torres Strait. He was later appointed keeper of New Guinea collections at the Cambridge Museum, upon which he drew extensively in this posthumously-published monograph.
