'Spring Showers' [a plate from 'Camera Work', Number XXXVI, October 1911]

An original photogravure on tissue paper, image size 230 × 93 mm, sheet size 280 × 201 mm, tipped in along the top edge to a plain sheet of paper, as issued.

Lightly hinged along the top edge of the backing paper behind a window mount (external dimensions 405 × 305 mm), protected by a loosely-inserted sheet of Mylar; in fine condition.

This atmospheric image was taken in 1900, and shows a lone street-sweeper on a rain-slicked New York street. It is characteristic of Stieglitz's Photo-Secession movement which used innovative pictorialist and compositional techniques to establish photography as a fine art.
