The Vegetation of Australia
Cambridge, Cambridge University Press, 1981 (first thus).
Large octavo, xxviii, 690, [1] (advertisement) pages 'with 416 figures [including numerous maps] and 91 tables' plus a folding map (tipped in at page 125).
Cloth; a fine copy with the near-fine dustwrapper (very lightly sunned on the spine) in the plain cardboard slipcase.
'This is the first complete survey of the vegetation of the whole of Australia' (preface of the editors: the book was first published in Germany - but in English - in 1981 as Volume 4 of the series 'Vegetationsmonographien der einzelnen Großräume'). Loosely inserted is an autograph letter signed by the author (one page octavo, on The University of New England letterhead, 19 July 1982), thanking the recipient Ralph Grandison for sending him his reprint on Acacia peuce. 'I hope you get some benefit from my book. A lot more detail could be added - e.g. on A. peuce. I did what I could - the job took 17 years and I am [happy?] to see the end of it'. A postcard with a printed message ('Many thanks for the reprint of your paper') and short manuscript note of thanks, signed by the author, is also present.
