Large octavo, two volumes, xl, 524; and [ii], 525-1102 pages plus a map, 2 frontispiece portraits, 129 black and white plates and 28 chromolithographs of eggs (painted by Charles Brittlebank).
Khaki cloth lettered in gilt on the spines; top and leading edges uncut, with a few leaves unopened; cloth slightly marked, rubbed and bumped at the extremities, with a thin faded strip at the head of the front cover of the second volume; endpapers slightly tape-marked; ownership details in pencil in both volumes; top margin of two consecutive preliminary leaves in the first volume slightly damaged when inexpertly opened (now expertly conserved); trifling chips to some protruding uncut leading edges (including to one plate, now reinserted after being detached at some stage); mild signs of age and use, but overall in excellent condition.
The black and white plates, after photographs primarily by the author, but also by Sidney Jackson and Dudley Le Souef, include many interesting scenes in the field. [2 items].
