A hand-coloured engraved map (printed surface 387 × 502 mm, sheet size approximately 505 × 620 mm). 'Ioh. Blaeu excud.'.
Vertical centrefold crease, as issued; remnants of hinge mounts and an old guard on the verso; some colours faded; paper lightly tanned; a few occasional spots of foxing; dampstain to the bottom margin (well clear of the printed surface, and easily matted out); overall a very good copy with generous margins.
A handsome map of the Isle of Wight from 'Le Théâtre du Monde, ou, Nouvel atlas', the French edition of Blaeu's 'Novus Atlas'. The French text on the verso is headed 'Vecta Insula, ou Isle de Wight', and its two pages are numbered 135 and 136.
