A presentation copy, inscribed and signed by the author's niece, Monica Moyes, who wrote the short introduction. In part, it states that 'Some years ago my uncle sought to have his manuscript of twenty two stories published ... Difficulties arose and the years passed.... [but] we have, at last, been able to cary out his wishes.... We have taken the liberty of adding other stories that tell of his achievements, his life and work'. 'Captain Morton Henry Moyes OBE (1886-1981) was a teacher, naval officer and Antarctic explorer of the heroic age of Antarctic exploration. Winner of three polar medals, Captain Moyes took part in the Australian Antarctic Expedition 1911-1914 under the leadership of Dr Douglas Mawson; the Shackleton Relief Expedition 1916-1917 under the leadership of Captain John King Davis; and the British, Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition (BANZARE) 1929-1930 again under the leadership of Sir Douglas Mawson.... His Antarctic recollections, recounted in his own words, in a wry and readable style, reveal a man of courage, of humility, of humour, and of determination; an intensely loyal man who never lost his fascination for living and working on the vast Antarctic continent' (rear cover blurb). We have found reference to a print run of only 100 copies; we cannot substantiate this, but the book is definitely scarce.
