The Architecture of Robert and James Adam (1758-1794)

London, The Offices of Country Life, 1922.

Folio, two volumes, xvi, 344 and x, 362, 92 (appendix), viii (index) pages with hundreds of illustrations (90 being plans, the rest from photographs) and a colour frontispiece plus a captioned tissue-guard.

Olive-green cloth lettered in gilt on the spines, with a small oval frame in gilt on the front covers, and blind rules with decorative corners on all covers; top edges gilt; cloth slightly rubbed at the extremities; both leading edges fingermarked; cloth on the first volume a little fingermarked; second volume slightly bumped at the corners, with small tape-stains on the pastedowns; minor signs of handling (including a short sealed tear to one margin); overall, an excellent set.

Provenance: the prominent Adelaide architect Frank Kenneth Milne (1885-1980), with numerous bookmarks (often on recycled scraps of paper - including some on blueprints - a number of them annotated or initialled by him) gathered together and housed in a loosely inserted Mylar sleeve. Two related sketches in pencil have been left in situ (between pages 310 and 311 in the second volume). [2 items].
