Quarter calf (lettered and ruled in gilt) and plain yellow cloth; a fine copy with the near-fine plain glassine dustwrapper (slightly creased, with one tiny tear).

Number 6 of only 55 copies initialled in ink by the publisher, the antiquarian bookseller James Dally (1931-2005). The informative 'Editor's Note' explains the background to this work, the first edition of which was published in Hobart in 1830. Melville 'published only twelve copies of this book, and today it seems to be known only by its entry in a bookseller's catalogue' issued in 1914.
