An original hand-coloured lithograph, matted, framed and glazed (visible image size 520 × 350 mm, external dimensions 765 × 575 mm).

Acid tanning to the cut edges of the mat board; light tanning to the paper but colours vibrant and bright; in excellent condition with the accompanying leaf of letterpress.

Plate 19 from Volume III of John Gould's 'Birds of Australia' (1840-1848). This species is now known as the Superb Fairywren [Malurus Cyaneus].
