Peake 703 (giving the date 1943). London-born John Charles Goodchild (1898-1980) emigrated with his family to South Australia in 1913; he served on the Western Front with the 9th Field Ambulance, AIF. He established himself as an artist, educator and arts administrator in Adelaide after the war. He studied in London in both the early and late 1920s; this image would appear to date from the second visit. Consult the 'Australian Dictionary of Biography' for more on this interesting artist.
