Large quarto, xii (last blank), 203 pages with approximately 60 colour illustrations after miniatures by Giovanni di Paolo.
Quarter morocco and moiré cloth; spine lettered in gilt; covers very lightly rubbed at the foot of the spine; essentially a fine copy in the pictorial slipcase (very slightly bumped).
The superb miniatures by Giovanni di Paolo (circa 1403-1482) were commissioned for a manuscript edition of Dante's 'Divine Comedy' presented to Alfonso V, king of Aragon, Naples and Sicily around 1444 and now held by the British Library (Yates Thompson MS 36). This Folio Society edition follows the blank verse translation of Henry Francis Cary, with extensive notes at the rear. The introduction is by Michael Prodger.
