The Magic Pudding. Being the Adventures of Bunyip Bluegum and his Friends Bill Barnacle & Sam Sawnoff

Sydney, Angus & Robertson Limited, 1965/ 1963 ('New edition')/ 1918.

Quarto, 171 pages with numerous illustrations plus an additional colour-pictorial title page (all from original artwork by the author; the pictorial title page is a replica of that in the first edition).

Brown papered boards slightly marked, rubbed and bumped, with light wear to three corner-tips; small light stain to the bottom margin of one opening, with minor signs of use elsewhere; a very good copy with the unclipped colour-pictorial dustwrapper (featuring the main illustration from the pictorial title page) a little foxed.

Norman Lindsay has added to the front free endpaper a charming original pen and pencil drawing of 'the debonair young koala' Bunyip Bluegum (overall dimensions 90 × 90 mm), and a signed inscription: 'The Top of the Tree to [blank] from Norman Lindsay'. The rear flap of the dustwrapper has the following printed comment: 'Reproduced by modern offset lithography, this edition recaptures the freshness of Norman Lindsay's original drawings in a way never previously possible'. Muir 4271 (1963 'New edition', and numerous reprints to 1972): 'The illustrations in this new edition were reproduced as well [as] (or even better, Lindsay thought) than in the first edition & it was a handsome book'. This 1965 reprint has an additional note: 'This is a reprint of the 1963 edition, with the variation that the coloured reproduction of the original title page is here used as a frontispiece. The binding is brown [papered boards], instead of red cloth, with slightly different lettering on the spine'.
