Paintings in Oil ... With Essays by Douglas Stewart and Norman Lindsay

Sydney, The Shepherd Press, [1945].

Large quarto, [40] pages with 2 illustrations plus 30 plates (including 14 tipped-in colour plates with captioned tissue-guards).

Contemporary full green morocco, lettered in gilt on the spine and extensively hand-tooled in gilt and blind; inner gilt dentelles; early and later leaves moderately foxed, with scattered light foxing elsewhere; bottom left-hand corner of eight of the tipped-in plates a little creased; minor signs of handling; a very good copy (with the binding in fine condition).

Number 376 of 1000 copies with the artist's signature in facsimile. This copy is inscribed 'Because Lois is beautiful this is her book, from Bill Rodie, 4-iii-49'. Bill Rodie wrote a gossip and scandal column ('Bill Rodie Presents Real Life') in the Sydney 'Daily Telegraph' in the 1940s and 1950s. The fine binding, presumably commissioned for presentation, is unsigned.
