'Barambah' Souvenir. June - July 1918 [cover title]
At Sea, The Editors (and printed by Cape Times Ltd., Printers, Capetown), 1918.
Quarto, 24 pages with numerous illustrations (many of them from photographs) plus the wrappers (the inside front cover contains an illustration; the inside rear cover, with the colophon at the foot and 'Shipmates o' Mine' at the head, is for autographs).
Saddle-stapled wrappers expertly conserved, with minor infill to the edges; short tear to all leading margins expertly sealed; light vertical crease throughout (where folded); minor signs of age and use; a presentable copy of a very rare item.
The souvenir of the return voyage 'to our "Bright Australia" of several Nursing Sisters and Troops, most of whom have taken part in active operations on various fronts of this world war' (the introduction). The editors 'regret the necessity of leaving out so many contributions, but the limited time at their disposal for printing compelled them to confine the Souvenir to its present size'. The inside rear cover carries 30 signatures (mainly in pencil), with the relevant town or city; included there is one of the editors, Sergeant F.A. Johnstone, of Melbourne. The front cover has the contemporary signature of Sergeant D.T. Moore ('1st Pioneer Battalion' has been added in ballpoint pen at a later date). Not in Dornbusch; not in Fielding and O'Neill.
