Grey papered boards lettered in black on the spine and front cover; rebacked (retaining much of the original backstrip), with replacement endpapers (now a little marked); covers marked, rubbed and foxed; acidic paper unevenly tanned and brittle (as usual); occasional signs of age and use; a very good copy nevertheless.

The author was a member of the battalion; he was awarded the Military Medal at Pozières in March 1916.
