History of the 15th Battalion, Australian Imperial Forces, War 1914-1918... Revised and edited by Lieutenant-Colonel Paul Goldenstedt

Brisbane, William Brooks & Co (Q.) Pty. Ltd., 1948.

Octavo, [xiv], 327 pages plus 10 leaves of plates (mainly portraits).

Brown cloth lettered in black on the spine and front cover, with the battalion colour patch printed on the front cover; cloth flecked; minimal signs of age and use; an excellent copy.

Both pastedowns have the following stamped in ink on them: 'Presented by Major Gen. J.H. Cannan ... and Angels Remembrance Club, 15th Bn. AIF'. In his two-page foreword, Cannan notes that he 'had the honour to command and train the Battalion from its inception in September, 1914.... I left the Battalion in August, 1916 to command the 11th Australian Infantry Brigade'. Loosely inserted is the Club's 'Annual Report and Balance Sheet' for the year to May 1939 (foolscap folio, duplicate typscript, 3 leaves printed rectos only, stapled; a few tears and marks). One item reminds members 'Eric Voss is still collecting subs for the History ... Remember only a limited number are to be printed and if your sub is not in before hand you will miss out.... The History should be completed in a few months'. The elected office bearers are added in ink, and on the verso of the final sheet are the details of Colonel Fleming (almost certainly Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Vincent Osborne Fleming, then commanding officer of the 2/15th Battalion). The author, a Gallipoli veteran, rose through the ranks.

Dornbusch 303; Fielding and O'Neill, page 226; Trigellis-Smith 218.
