An original vintage portrait photograph, signed and inscribed 'Many thanks again'
A gelatin silver photograph (128 × 90 mm), uncredited and undated (but probably mid-1960s), inscribed in black felt-tipped pen in the left and right margins.
The first part of the signature is very slightly smudged; overall, in fine condition.
The photograph comes with an envelope from the South Australian Hotel (presumably where Miss Dietrich was staying). The envelope is inscribed in her hand in red ink 'Phil Liddicote' (we are grateful to Peter Goers for informing us that this is in fact Phil Liddicoat, house manager at the Scott Theatre, the venue for Miss Dietrich's season at the Adelaide Festival of Arts, 1968). A copy of the original programme for that event is included here (octavo, 20 pages, minor signs of use); a similar image to the one we have for sale appears on page 5 (credited to Peter Basch, New York). A newspaper cutting relating to the visit is loosely inserted. Two biographies of Marlene Dietrich (1901-1992) are included: 'Dietrich' by Donald Spoto (London, Bantam Press, 1992, a fine copy with the dustwrapper); and 'Hollywood Portraits - Marlene Dietrich' by Marie Cahill (London, Bison Group, 1992, a very good copy with the dustwrapper).
