Guildford, Genesis Publications Limited, in association with Australian & New Zealand Book Co. Ltd., 1979 (facsimile edition)/ [circa 1864].
Octavo, xxii (new foreword and introduction), [ii] (colour-pictorial title page and dedication), 91 pages of facsimile manuscript with numerous illustrations by the author plus a small oval reproduction photographic portrait of Alice mounted on a leaf of tissue at the rear, positioned as an overlay to the sketch of Alice at the end of the manuscript.
Full morocco lettered in gilt on the front cover and ruled in gilt on all sides; all edges gilt; a fine copy with the fine slipcase (gilt-decorated cloth with a paper title-label on one side).
Number 117 of only 500 copies of a splendid facsimile of the original manuscript (given to Alice Liddell) of an early version of 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'. The lengthy introduction by Morton Cohen notes that it is 'the only manuscript of the story that has come to light.... Although the first published version incorporates most of the incidents, characters, and narrative of Alice's manuscript, Dodgson made some deletions from the tale he gave to Alice and added so much that in the end the published book contains more than twice as many words as Alice's manuscript'. It is reproduced in its entirety here for the first time; the facsimile edition Dodgson produced in 1886 did not include the photograph, which necessitated a minor change to the last line of the text.
