Dives' Wife and Other Fragments

Dives' Wife and Other Fragments

Paisley, Alexander Gardner, 1908.

Octavo, 101, [5] pages (the latter including two pages of press notices of other works by the author).

Colour-pictorial cloth a little flecked, rubbed and marked; leading and bottom edges uncut; endpapers discoloured; pencilled ownership signature; corner creases to a handful of leaves; mild signs of use and age; overall a very good copy.

Ten short prose works by the author of 'Arcadian Adelaide' (a venomous invective against the self-satisfaction and dullness of Edwardian Adelaide); the last page collects press notices for both 'Arcadian Adelaide' and its sequel, 'The Arcadians'. 'These fragments spell the idle moments of a restless life - a life of swift-changing scenes, and varied experiences, not unmixed with great sorrows. They are dream pictures for the most part, glimpses of lives passed in worlds far from peaceful England' (author's foreword). Not least, 'Vanna' (pages 85-93) is set in Port Darwin.
