Quarter cloth and contrasting papered boards; leading edge uncut; edges very lightly foxed; a near-fine copy with the unclipped dustwrapper lightly sunned on the spine, with slight (mainly surface) loss to silverfish to the rear panel and the top edge of both flaps, and a tiny closed tear to the foot of the rear hinge.
'This work was first published in Great Britain under the title "In the Heart of the Country". English version prepared by the author from the original Afrikaans' (verso of the title page). The title page is signed by the author, the first person to win the Booker Prize twice (in 1983 and 1999); he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2003.
