The title page is signed by the author, the first person to win the Booker Prize twice (in 1983 and 1999); he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2003. The book contains an eight-page introduction by the editors: 'Primary responsibility for the English-language selections has been undertaken by J.M. Coetzee; for the Afrikaans selections, by Andre Brink'.
