'This work was first published in Great Britain under the title "In the Heart of the Country". English version prepared by the author from the original Afrikaans' (from the verso of the title page of the first American edition in 1977). The title page is signed by the author, the first person to win the Booker Prize twice (in 1983 and 1999); he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2003.
