London, Secker & Warburg, 1977 [first edition, prepared by the author from the original Afrikaans].
Octavo, [iv], 139 pages.
Papered boards (lettered in gilt on the spine) lightly indented on the front cover; edges lightly foxed or marked; endpapers lightly offset, with the rear flyleaf slightly marked; small Foyles Bookshop paper label on the front pastedown beneath the flap; a very good copy with the unclipped dustwrapper a little sunned on the spine, and rubbed and a little worn at the extremities, with a few short edge tears (one to the front panel with an associated crease).
The title page is signed by the author, the first person to win the Booker Prize twice (in 1983 and 1999); he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2003. This copy is also inscribed 'With love, JMC 1977' (inadvertently on the rear flyleaf, thus upside down in the book).
