French Exploration in South Australia. With Especial Reference to Encounter Bay, Kangaroo Island, the Two Gulfs and Murat Bay, 1802-1803
[Adelaide, The Author, 1952].
Quarto, x, 200 pages of duplicated typescript plus 15 pages of plates.
Card covers a little sunned on the spine and slightly marked, with a few tiny chips to the ends of the spine; edges and plates a little foxed, with minimal scattered foxing elsewhere; an excellent copy.
Number 31 of only 200 copies (with part of the edition bound in quarter cloth and papered boards). The work is based on three main sources: the official published account written by Peron and Freycinet after the death of Baudin (much of it had not at this time been translated into English); Baudin's manuscript journal (not published in English until 1974), and the manuscript diary of Master-Shipwright Ronsard.
