London, Jonathan Cape, 1965 [first edition, first impression, second state (without the gun stamped in gilt on the front cover)].
Octavo, 221 pages.
Papered boards (lettered in gilt on the spine) slightly bumped at the extremities, with the front bottom corner moderately bumped; edges a little foxed and marked (with minimal impact on a handful of leading margins); trifling signs of use (including some fingermarks to one opening); a very good copy with the unclipped dustwrapper a little worn.
Signed on the title page by Roger Moore (who starred in the 1974 film of the same name, in only his second appearance as Bond). Offered together with 'You Only Live Twice' (London, Jonathan Cape, 1964, first edition), in similar condition, signed on the half-title by Roger Moore (although Sean Connery played Bond in the 1967 film of the same name). The books come with a letter of authenticity on Stunt Co-ordinators Guild letterhead, attesting that both books 'were happily signed by Roger Moore after our return to the UK from India on completion of Location Filming in for the Bond Octopussy [sic]' (the film was released in 1983). The letter is addressed to Christie's South Kensington; the two books and the letter were sold together as Lot 284 in their Sale 9287 on 12 December 2001 (the relevant ephemera is still present).
