An album of First World War photographs showing scenes in France, Greece and the Middle East
A cloth-bound commercial photograph album (approximately 161 × 112 mm), containing 43 gelatin silver snapshots, two to a page behind window-mounts on both sides of 11 of the 12 album leaves (print size 42 × 63 mm, visible image size 37 × 59 mm); an additional hand-coloured snapshot is loosely inserted.
The covers are lightly worn and a little marked, with a long split to the spine; the contents are in excellent condition.
Images include a row of rough graves; heavily damaged buildings; numerous Army camp scenes, including interiors of tents and huts (one captioned 'Church Army Hut Etaples ? 1918/19'), and a priest celebrating mass; a large mural of 41 General Hospital; Greek soldiers; routine peasant life, including laden camels, Muslim women in burkhas, and harbour and street scenes (one shows Base Army Post Office X in Salonika town, which burned down on 19 August 1917).
