All riders, place-getters and dividends paid for the seven-race event are inserted in either indelible pencil or ink. Some fugitive printing has been neatly overwritten in ink. The 'Rules of Racing' at the foot of the second page are instructive: '1. Catchweights in all events; blankets & surcingle - no saddles.... 4. Thieves, vagabonds, urgers, tipsters, prostitutes, those consorting with prostitutes ... and other undesirables are hereby WARNED OFF THE COURSE'.
