Paris, Printed at the Lecram Press ('Published for Subscribers Only'), 1929.
Quarto, xxxiv, 438 pages.
Dark red cloth; top edge gilt; spine sunned (the sides a little unevenly so); leading and bottom edges lightly marked; tiny light stain near the bottom inside corner of eight consecutive leaves near the middle of the book; free endpapers heavily offset (with a short marginal tear to the rear one expertly sealed); a very good copy.
This 'Subscriber's Edition' is the first cased edition, using sheets from the first issue (comprising four parts in wrappers, with one colour plate). Crowley was dissatisfied with the quality of the binding and the colour plate, and the bulk of the edition was reissued in the present format, minus the plate.
