Large quarto, comprising the title leaf (verso blank) and 6 hand-coloured engraved maps (5 double-page, and a large folding map of Australia, 407 × 548 mm); bound in at the rear is the publisher's 'List of Works', dated 1 November 1853 (small quarto, 24 pages, with this atlas featured at the head of the second page).
Original wave-grain brown cloth extensively decorated in blind, with the short title voided within a gilt map of Australia on the front cover; cloth lightly rubbed and bumped at the extremities; essentially a fine copy.
The maps are a general map of Australasia (by Sidney Hall); Australia (the large folding map, by J. Bartholomew); NSW, Victoria, and SA (by W. Hughes); NSW (by J. Bartholomew); Victoria (ditto); and 'New Zealand, Van Diemen's Land, and the Settled Portion of Western Australia'. The last four maps have insets (with Tasmania and WA insets in the last one!).
