An official photograph of the squad from South Australia in Perth for the Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia, 14-18 November 1947 (WA's debut in the competition)

A gelatin silver photograph (image size 145 × 197 mm), on the original captioned mount with decorative borders (250 × 305 mm); the photographer is 'Victor Penrose, Perth'.

Corners of the mount bumped (two of them moderately so); the photograph is in fine condition.

The match was over in three days, with Western Australia winning by an innings and 124 runs (WA 444, with Carmody 198; SA 109, following on with 211). The photograph comes from one of the SA team, Dick Niehuus, and is accompanied by some ephemera from the celebrations surrounding the 40th Anniversary of WA's entry into the competition, held on Saturday 14 November 1987. These items are the two-page itinerary and the Australian Airlines return ticket, the official invitations to the afternoon tea and dinner, the programme and menu for the dinner, and draft copies of Niehuus's thank you letters sent before and after the event.
