Copy number 2016 of 2300 copies bound in quarter-leather (with a further 500 copies bound in full leather), with the 26-page publisher's Introduction pamphlet. Facsimile reprint of the original 1672 edition. Although most famous for 'The Art of Gymnastics', Hieronymus Mercurialis (1530-1606) 'was an Italian physician and Greek and Latin scholar. He was a professor of medicine at Padua, Bologna, and Pisa, and wrote medical books, including one on the ailments of children. In his book on the diseases of children he devoted three chapters to various aspects of speech and voice problems. One was on speech and voice, one on mutism, and the third on articulation and fluency' (University of Buffalo website).
