Australia and Back

London, A.& C. Black, 1927.

Octavo, [iv], 124 pages with several pages of illustrations (some full-page) and an endpaper map depicting the route Cobham took in 1926.

Black-pictorial blue cloth slightly flecked; spine slightly sunned; top edge slightly marked; contemporary pencilled ownership inscription; an excellent copy.

The 'first person to fly from England to Australia and back in his de Havilland D.H. 50J biplane, Sir Alan Cobham [also] became famous for his exploits in the interwar years by making civil aviation accessible and popular throughout the world' (RAF Museum website). Cobham's flight spurred many others to follow in his footsteps (not least, authors Nevil Shute and Ray Ollis). Offered together with a contemporary postcard-format portrait photograph signed in ink on the image by Sir Alan Cobham, with a routine typed message on the verso (a few trifling blemishes to the edges, but overall in excellent condition).
