The small sale comprised 17 lots, 13 of which were originally purchased in 1806 from the collection of Sir Ashton Lever. In 1781, 'he acquired the bulk of the collection which was brought back from Captain Cook's third voyage'. Upwards of eight of the lots relate to the voyage, with the key piece being lot 9 noted above (four pages and four illustrations in the catalogue are devoted to it). Other items include a Tongan circular wooden food bowl, part of a Tongan dance skirt, and part of an Hawaiian bone fish hook.
