London, Hodder and Stoughton, 1891.
Octavo, xii, 440 pages plus a frontispiece portrait (although listed on the title page as an 'etched portrait by H. Manesse', it is yet another variant: see below).
Cloth very lightly flecked, bumped and marked; all edges uncut (with a few trifling marginal blemishes attendant on this); an excellent copy (internally fine).
We have previously identified variant portraits reproduced as the frontispiece; this copy has a portrait we have seen before, but not reproduced in the same manner. The entire page appears to have been produced by a developed photographic process (there is visible silvering-out to the portrait surface), using a photolithographic portrait as the original, with the facsimile signature below it. Ferguson 10473 (noting an erratum slip).
