Later half calf and marbled papered boards lettered in gilt on the spine; extremities slightly rubbed and marked; spine a little creased and sunned; scattered foxing and minor offsetting; early 'Long Island Historical Society' inkstamp at the foot of the title page (touching the last number of the date, and bleeding through slightly on the verso); trifling signs of use and age; a very good copy.

Bound together with another title by John Abernethy (1764-1831, distinguished London surgeon and a student of John Hunter): 'Special Observations on Injuries of the Head; and on Miscellaneous Subjects' (Philadelphia, Thomas Dobson, 1811, first American edition; octavo, 162 pages plus a frontispiece plate; top corner tip of some 30 leaves slightly bumped or nicked; plate slightly nibbled and heavily discoloured, offsetting onto the title page; a very good copy). Provenance: Professor Donald Simpson AO (1927-2018), eminent Australian neurosurgeon, with his bookplate.
