City of Fitzroy. ANZAC. Honor to the Brave. A very large colour-pictorial commemorative certificate, matted (visible dimensions 546 × 430 mm), matted (visible dimensions 546 × 430 mm) and behind glass in a later simple wooden frame (external dimensions 688 × 573 mm).

Scattered foxing (heavier towards the bottom), with a few light creases; the frame is slightly rubbed and marked; overall, in very good condition.

The bulk of the text is printed (including the signatures); Private Colgate's name and date of death, and the date the certificate was prepared (20 August 1918) are the only manuscript insertions. Patriotic portraits, symbolic images, flags of Allied nations, and Australian battle honours are surrounded by a wide border of native flowers. The later mount carries a simple caption that cuts to the heart of the message - 'We Regret To Inform You' - and records that it was 'Donated by Mrs Jean Willis'.
