Oblong small octavo, full leather (a little rubbed); in excellent condition.
Graves has written: 'With much love to dear Leonard who can always count on his friend Robert Graves Feb 3 1937'. Riding writes 'With much love to dear Leonard from Laura, who was born just twenty-five years before him. Laura Riding. February 3, 1937. London'. Following the break-up of their relationship with Nancy, his first wife, Graves and Riding lived in Majorca until the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936. Between 1936 and 1939, they lived variously in England, France and Switzerland; Graves accompanied Riding on her return to the USA in 1939. Their relationship ended acrimoniously later that year, and Graves returned to England. Provenance: Leonard Russell (born 16 January 1926), the young son of Margaret Russell (née Reed), nanny to Jenny, the first child of Robert Graves and Nancy Nicholson, then lifelong friend of Robert Graves; by descent.
